Girard Chiro Dr. Gordon Byrne, D.C.

Phases of Care
1. Intensive Care / Relief Care
After either being in pain from an injury or suffering through a chronic condition, the first thing most new patients want to focus on is feeling better. In this phase of care, your spine is out of balance and not holding adjustments well. For these facts, in the beginning, your visits will usually be more frequent and closely scheduled. The actual number and frequency of visits will be determined by Dr. Byrne based on a number of factors including your condition, age, and lifestyle.
The goal of this first phase of care is focused on pain relief, symptom relief, and an intensive treatment approach.
2. Reconstructive / Rehabilitative Care
Your original aches or pains are beginning to decrease or even possibly disappear in the phase of care. Your spine is beginning to strengthen and “hold” the spinal adjustments for longer periods of time as well. The goal of this phase of care is for a more complete stage of healing to occur. Though you may feel be feeling better, underlying muscle and soft tissue damage can remain under the surface.
During this phase, visit frequency will often be reduced, but it is very important to continue on with your designed treatment plan so that healing can continue and not allow for relapse to occur. Also, within this phase of care, you may be asked to supplement your care with exercises, dietary changes and other self-care procedures.
3. Maintenance / Wellness Care
After recovery of your original problem or complaint, regular chiropractic “checkups” can help preserve your progress. In this phase, your spine has become strengthened and stable, handling stresses well. Periodic visits can help catch small problems before they become major concerns. Think of this type of care like preventive dental care. You go to the dentist for regular checkups so that you can catch cavities early or prevent them all together.
Wellness minded adults and their children choose this type of care to look and feel their best. Like other preventative measures, a chiropractic lifestyle can save time, money, and most importantly pain, by helping you stay well.
